Earthdog tests are non-competitive and are open to dachshunds and small terrier breeds. Dogs follow a scent line into an artificial underground tunnel. At the end of the tunnel are a pair of caged rats, which the dog works by barking, digging, lunging, growling, or biting at protective bars. Both the AKC and AWTA (American Working Terriers Association) offer Earthdog tests. Both clubs offer rules and event schedules on their websites:
